About

I’m a second-generation Canadian originally from Montréal, Québec. I am happiest when I’m dancing, walking among large trees with my dog, Laika, or starting a puzzle.

I’m an associate professor and currently the Philosophy Department Head at the University of the Fraser Valley located on unceded Sto:lo Nation territory. I teach social/political philosophy, environmental ethics and feminist philosophy, and I am the associate director of the Centre for Philosophical Inquiry for Children at the University of the Fraser Valley. I’m a graduate from the University of Oregon.

My recent work explains the causes of prevalent historical amnesia about settler colonialism, what I call ‘settler ignorance’, to show that it is not a mere lack of knowledge, but a particular kind of knowing that upholds settler colonial power.

I am also working on developing on account of vulnerable agency in feminist self‑defence education. This project applies insights from the feminist ethics of vulnerability to an evaluation of educational interventions in violence prevention. I show the impact of gun violence on the experience of embodied vulnerability to be a gendered hypervulnerability that precludes agency.

Prior to beginning graduate school, I worked at COPA (centre ontarien de prévention des agressions) [Assault Prevention Centre of Ontario] where I facilitated violence prevention, equity and inclusive education workshops, as well as human rights training, aimed at students and staff of French elementary and high schools in Ontario.
